Webflow
Visual development · Designer-grade output · CMS + interactions
Webflow is the bridge between design tool and developer environment. The editor speaks HTML, CSS and class names directly, while still letting designers work visually. The output is clean semantic code, the CMS is well-structured, and the interactions panel replaces a chunk of what designers used to ship to engineers.

What Webflow is for
Webflow's promise is "design without translation loss" — a visual editor that produces production-quality HTML and CSS instead of pixel-locked image layouts. The Designer exposes every box-model, flex, grid and typography control you would set in code, while the Style Panel makes the class system explicit.
That makes it the clear default for design studios, in-house brand teams and freelance designers who need to ship marketing sites without a separate development cycle. The CMS supports collections and reference fields properly, Logic and Interactions cover most of what designers used to need engineers for, and Webflow AI now helps draft sections and copy inside the editor.
Webflow is also the SaaS builder that gets closest to "real code" — you can export the entire static HTML and CSS of a Designer-built site, even though hosting on Webflow is the recommended path.

Pros and cons
Pros
- Outputs clean, semantic HTML and CSS — among the best for performance and SEO.
- Real CMS with collections, reference fields and a content editor view.
- Interactions and Logic remove the need for many small dev tickets.
- Webflow Hosting (built on Fastly + AWS) is genuinely fast.
- Strong agency ecosystem and template marketplace.
Cons
- Steep learning curve — you must understand the box model and CSS flexbox/grid.
- Workspace + Site plan pricing gets expensive when seats scale.
- E-commerce is functional but trails Shopify and even Squarespace at the high end.
- Lock-in if you host with Webflow — exported HTML loses CMS dynamic features.
- Multilingual is only natively supported on Localization (paid add-on).
Tech architecture
Webflow generates static HTML / CSS / JS at publish time and serves it from a global CDN backed by Fastly and AWS. Dynamic pages (CMS detail pages) are rendered server-side and cached aggressively. The Designer itself is a single-page app that talks to Webflow's API.
Webflow is one of the few SaaS builders where you can export the full static HTML for a site you designed — useful for handing off, or as an escape hatch. Hosting elsewhere means losing Webflow's CMS, forms and other dynamic features, however.
Best for
- Design studios and freelance designers shipping client work
- In-house brand and marketing teams running a high-quality marketing site
- Content-driven marketing sites with structured CMS needs
- Teams that want clean code and strong Core Web Vitals out of the box

FAQ
How hard is Webflow really?
If you already know HTML and CSS, you will be productive in a day. If you do not, expect a week or two to internalise the box model, classes and flex / grid. Significantly steeper than Wix or Squarespace.
Is Webflow better than WordPress for marketing sites?
For modern marketing sites with strong design and clean code, often yes. Webflow's published output beats most WordPress themes on Lighthouse, and the visual designer beats most WordPress builders for design fidelity. WordPress still wins for deep content trees and rich app ecosystems.
Can I export a Webflow site and host it elsewhere?
Yes — you can export the full static HTML / CSS / JS. Dynamic features (CMS, forms, e-commerce) only work on Webflow Hosting, so an exported site typically gets handed to a static host plus a custom backend.
Does Webflow have an AI builder now?
Yes — Webflow AI helps generate sections, copy and basic layouts inside the Designer. It is an assistant on top of the existing tool rather than a one-shot generator like Durable or Tooo.ai.
